Location: Greenwood Village, Colorado
Company: Ultrasound AI
Employment Type: Full-time, on-site
Compensation: $150,000–$300,000 base salary, plus equity and IP monetization success bonus
About Ultrasound AI
Ultrasound AI is developing artificial intelligence systems for medical imaging, ultrasound-based prediction, diagnosis, prognosis, clinical decision support, and related healthcare applications. The company owns a growing patent portfolio covering AI-enabled ultrasound, medical imaging, predictive analytics, and medical decision-support technologies.
We are hiring a patent attorney to join us on site in Greenwood Village, Colorado and help build, expand, protect, and enforce our intellectual property portfolio. This is an employee role, not an outside counsel position.
Role Overview
This role combines patent enforcement with hands-on patent prosecution and portfolio expansion. The primary business focus is enforcement, licensing leverage, competitive intelligence, and monetization. However, the attorney must also be able to draft claims, prepare new patent filings, file continuations, support continuation-in-part applications, respond to office actions, and manage patent prosecution strategy.
The right candidate can move comfortably between infringement analysis and patent drafting. We need someone who can read issued patents, understand competitor products, draft enforceable claims, build continuation strategies, prepare claim charts, identify new inventions, and help turn the company’s patent portfolio into business leverage.
This is not a narrow prosecution-only role. It is also not a pure litigation role. It is a practical, business-facing patent role focused on strengthening and enforcing the company’s IP position.
Key ResponsibilitiesPatent Enforcement & Monetization
- Analyze issued patents and pending claims for enforcement potential.
- Prepare infringement claim charts against competitor products, services, systems, publications, regulatory materials, technical documentation, and market-facing claims.
- Research competitor technologies in ultrasound, medical imaging, AI/ML, clinical prediction, diagnostic systems, healthcare software, and related fields.
- Conduct infringement, validity, prior-art, freedom-to-operate, enforceability, and design-around assessments.
- Support patent licensing, settlement, monetization, and enforcement strategy.
- Coordinate with outside litigation counsel on demand letters, litigation strategy, PTAB/IPR risk, settlement positioning, and enforcement planning.
- Help prepare board, investor, and executive-level summaries of patent strength, enforcement opportunities, claim coverage, and competitive positioning.
- Maintain organized evidence files, claim charts, product mappings, prior-art references, and enforcement work product.
- Monitor competitor activity, publications, product launches, FDA/regulatory filings, marketing materials, conference presentations, and technical papers relevant to the company’s patent portfolio.
Patent Filings, Claims & Portfolio Development
- Draft and prosecute patent applications, including provisional applications, non-provisional applications, continuations, continuations-in-part, divisionals, and related filings.
- Draft new patent claims and revise pending claims to improve commercial coverage, enforceability, and alignment with competitor activity.
- Prepare and file continuation applications to preserve and expand claim scope around commercially important embodiments and competitor products.
- Identify opportunities for new patent filings based on company technology, datasets, models, workflows, product features, and market developments.
- Work with founders, engineers, researchers, and product teams to harvest inventions and convert technical concepts into patentable claim sets.
- Develop claim strategies that support both product protection and future enforcement.
- Respond to office actions and work with examiners, including interviews where appropriate.
- Manage outside patent prosecution counsel and review their work product for strategic fit, claim quality, and business relevance.
- Support U.S. and international filing strategy, including PCT and foreign national phase decisions.
- Review issued and pending claims for commercial relevance, competitor coverage, continuation opportunities, and enforcement readiness.
- Support invention assignment, trade secret, confidentiality, and IP ownership processes.
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
- Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
- Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

- Experience preparing or prosecuting patent applications, including office action responses.
- Ability to draft or manage continuation applications and develop continuation claim strategies.

- Experience with patent enforcement, infringement analysis, claim charting, patent litigation, PTAB/IPR, invalidity contentions, licensing, or IP monetization.
- Technical background in computer science, electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, physics, medical imaging, AI/ML, software, signal processing, or life sciences.
- Experience with medical devices, diagnostics, ultrasound, radiology, healthcare AI, clinical software, or regulated health technology.
- Prior law firm, in-house, USPTO, patent litigation, or patent prosecution experience.
- Experience managing outside counsel, coordinating patent portfolios, or working directly with technical founders and engineers.
- Ability to balance legal precision with business urgency.
