Litigation Docketing Specialist
Brooks Kushman, PC, is seeking a Litigation Docketing Specialist to support its growing intellectual property litigation practice in our Royal Oak, MI office. This role is responsible for accurate calendaring, deadline management, and docket maintenance for complex litigation matters, including patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret disputes. The ideal candidate has hands‑on experience using CPI and/or LawToolBox, strong attention to detail, and a solid understanding of litigation rules and timelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Docket and calendar litigation deadlines for IP matters in federal and state courts, as well as administrative proceedings
- Accurately calculate deadlines based on court rules, statutes, scheduling orders, and party stipulations
- Maintain and update litigation dockets using CPI and/or LawToolBox, ensuring consistency and accuracy
- Monitor court dockets and notices (CM/ECF and other systems) for new filings, orders, and scheduling changes
- Communicate deadlines and updates clearly to attorneys, paralegals, and litigation teams
- Run docket reports and deadline audits on a regular basis
- Assist with maintaining docketing procedures, workflows, and quality‑control checks
- Collaborate with litigation support, paralegals, and attorneys to resolve docketing questions or discrepancies
- Support best practices for risk management and compliance related to deadline tracking
Experience with IP Litigation
- Experience docketing deadlines in patent, trademark, and other IP litigation matters
- Familiarity with litigation phases including pleadings, discovery, motion practice, hearings, and trial
- Exposure to PTAB, ITC, or other IP‑related proceedings is a plus but not required
Qualifications
Required
- Minimum 2 years of litigation docketing experience in a law firm or legal department
- Strong knowledge of federal court rules and litigation calendaring principles
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to manage high volumes of deadlines across multiple matters
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook and related calendaring tools

Preferred
- Prior experience supporting intellectual property litigation
- Hands‑on experience using CPI and/or LawToolBox
- Familiarity with CM/ECF and PACER
- Experience with docket audits or quality control processes
- Knowledge of state court or international litigation rules
